An international sign

On the fanny packs that were filled for the children is a symbol that is internationally understood by deaf people. The fingers form the letters I, L and U for “I love you”. The thumb is spread a little further than is the case here in the graphic. However, this “I Love You” is not used as a declaration of love among deaf people, but rather is a sign of solidarity among deaf people and a commitment to sign language and deaf culture. In addition, “Allah Kariem”, the name of the support association, is printed on the fanny packs – these words mean “God helps”.
