Vision
The Holy Land Institute for the Deaf and Deafblind (HLID) is committed to ensure that deaf and deafblind children in the Middle East receive the support they need - regardless of their social, religious, political and financial background.
This means providing a wide range of educational measures and support to enable them to become an equal and valuable part of society.
Motivation
We believe in the Christian view of humanity, in which every single person has been given abilities and talents which they can contribute. Unfortunately, there are many different reasons why children and young people are held back, but we want to support them so that they can develop positively.
Task core
Education and communication are key to development and good coexistence. This means that educational opportunities must be created for deaf and deafblind children, but also for their environment and other social groups. In addition, places where people can come together and exchange ideas will be created.
Understanding of community
We believe in a world in which everyone is considered equal. This also means respecting different opinions and showing understanding. In the Muslim context of the Middle East, it is important for HLID as a Christian institute to maintain a good relationship with its neighbors. It is therefore always important to avoid misunderstandings and show respect.
Church affiliation
The institute belongs to the Arab Episcopal Church of Jerusalem and is therefore part of a network of many charities. The HLID is under the leadership of Father Jamil, who is also responsible for the Christian community in Salt. In the daily work, the Christian faith becomes visible through its works and never through any pressure.
Reliability
The funds used are always audited carefully and used with great care. This results in a focus on sustainability and the high level of transparency of the HLID ensures this. Key figures and processes can be explained in detail on request and it is easy to see that the aid is really getting through.
Full-time and voluntary work
We are convinced that the highly qualified employees at HLID must be paid fairly and appropriately. To make this possible, all employees of the Friends' Associations forego financial compensation and work 100% on a voluntary basis.
Official recognition
Both the Jordanian government and the governments of the respective supporting associations know and appreciate the work of the Institute. Accordingly, there is constant communication and donations are officially recognized as charitable and are also recognized as such by the tax office.
